Sharlette Shares More About Her New Track “Loving You Is Wild” & Career Origins
Intro:
Last weekend, fans got to hear from London-born vocalist Sharlette on her new single “Loving You Is Wild,” which we’ll be reviewing in today’s article. Sharlette is a singer who is killing it in the UK scene right now after building an impressive music r.esumé. She’s even graced tracks with some of the most respected artists, such as Boy George and LeAnn Rimes. Between her professional experience & ability to add her own personal magic to each track she’s on, Sharlette is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with. Before reading our brief conversation, make sure you check out this new single below.
Me: How would you describe your creative process while making “Loving You Is Wild”?
Sharlette: The creative process for this song, in particular, flowed really easily. Sometimes songs take days to make, and some take a couple of hours, and this was one of them that was just created in one session. I was inspired by a lovely experience, and when I placed myself in that feeling, the song just came naturally as I heard the guitar loop “Loving You Is Wild.” My producer Joe Chiari said that the song needed a nice repetitive vibey loop, and that’s how we came up with “loving you is all I need you know loving you is all I need”.
Did you draw inspiration from any other specific artists or genres?
Yes, definitely Soul and R&B! These were my number one favourite genres from a young age (classic and current). There are so many incredible artists, particularly women, to name who created a melting pot of inspiration.
I agree! Now, how would you describe your current style in your own words?
My current style of music is Soul/R&B, but if anyone knows me well, they will know I am extremely versatile and, in fact, were surprised NOT to hear a House or UKG track. However, I really wanted to strip it all back and wear my heart on my sleeve. I will be collaborating with different people to feature on tracks and maybe have slight genre twists on my songs, but as it stands now, my music will always be soulful at the core.
For this new single specifically, were there any core themes or messages you hope listeners take away after their specific listening experience?
The song speaks of peaceful love, where a lot of people can relate to tumultuous relationships at times and listen to songs that affirm those feelings. I wanted to draw inspiration from a positive perspective. I truly believe that words are powerful and even more powerful when in songs or mantras. Whether you are in a relationship or not, if I or anyone sings this song, those words can embed in the subconscious and become manifest. Call me ‘woo woo’ if you like, I genuinely want to serve people with as much positivity as possible, and here is the first of many!
That’s a very powerful message! With that in mind, what was the most challenging part of making this track?
The only thing I found challenging about this song in particular was making a decision on the final mix. Only because this is my first release in years, and I really focused on getting the sound how I wanted it. I am fortunate that I work with a producer (Joe Chiari) who has the patience and gave me the time and space to explore different ideas and work myself out as an artist again! I also learnt a lot from him in this process. Funnily enough, doing final mixes on the other songs after this one became a lot easier. You have to really know how you want to sound as an artist, or you can easily get lost, and your songs will not tie in together. For me, that was really important (especially for the first few releases)
Getting the mix right truly is the hardest, but most important step! And from there, where does your stage name originate from? Has it ever changed in the past?
It’s actually just my own name! My father decided to spell it this way as he liked the sound of “Sharlette” instead of “Charlotte”
Nice! In addition, are there any upcoming releases or plans that you're comfortable sharing with the readers?
Of course, my next release is a more upbeat song, which I feel carries a slight 90s edge and influence, but I’ll let the listener make their own interpretation ;)
And finally, in your own words, why should a new listener check out this single today?
If you are driving, cooking, cleaning, studying, ‘chilling’, this tune is for you and soothing to the eardrums! This song can become your mantra!
