Luca Gasperoni Talks About Creating His New Album & His Inspirations
Intro:
Luca Gasperoni is an Italian artist with an emotionally charged brand-new album, “Burnout certified,” this month. He’s had a long journey working as a sound engineer for years, and is the creative director at a communication agency. It’s easy to understand how his hard-working lifestyle likely helped inspire the new album title. “Burnout certified” reflects Luca's shift from poetry to music, featuring poignant lyrics that speak to introverts and those disillusioned with modern society. Before reading our brief conversation, make sure you listen to Luca Gasperoni today below.
Me: What was the creative process like while making “Burnout Certified”? How'd you get inspired?
Luca: As a full-time worker, I can't afford special processes. I had to work on it at night, when i had energy to do that. Worked in my bedroom & mastered in a proper studio ( thanks Umberto! )
Did you draw inspiration from any specific genres or artists for this release?
I was strongly inspired by Mos Def and Gil Scott-Heron, my all-time favorites. Also been writing poetry lately, so I just tried to fit everything into this album. No particular mission or thoughts, I just let it flow.
Additionally, how would you describe your overall current style of music? Has it evolved?
Every album I do is basically built around limits I put to myself and my gear, so it’s constantly evolving. For this album, I really focused on old samples and tape recordings sessions in order to get the color I wanted in the overall sound. It has roots in hip hop, but I really dunno what kind of genre that is, and honestly don’t care, I don’t like labels
What themes or messages do you hope listeners take away from this specific project?
I believe this album strongly reflects my frustration when it comes to society and political issues. We living in wild times, and it’s hard to see the light. Everything feels like it’s burning while we’re being told to keep smiling and keep scrolling. I’m done with that. I’ve been digging into myself, embracing the quiet, the solitude—because in a world that worships noise, speed, and social clout, choosing stillness feels like rebellion. So I am trying to discover myself and embrace introversion as a stand in this world that only celebrates society, interactions, and consumption.
That’s very powerful! From there, what was the most challenging part of the recording process?
Paying for cleaning the samples :D, I really enjoyed the process, nothing challenging, just a conscious flow.
Where does your stage name originate from? Has it ever changed in the past?
I don’t have any stage name, just my birth name. Stay true, no need for fancy fake identities.
Nice! Do you have any upcoming releases or plans that you're comfortable sharing with the readers?
Been thinking about creating a more psychedelic 70s-inspired album, but I dunno honestly, am growing, so my ideas, tastes, and needs will see what my next obsession will be, and put it into music.
That’s exciting! And finally, in your own words, why should a new listener check out this song today?
I felt a responsibility to speak up—these are dark times, and silence didn’t sit right with me. This is my way of reaching out. If someone finds a piece of truth in it or just feels a little less alone, then it was worth it. That’s all.
