Olivier Laurent Drops New Project “Solin Anj” & Tells Us More About His Story
Intro:
Olivier Laurent is an NY artist hailing from Amityville & he’s just dropped his new project. His family is originally from the nation of Haiti, and they’ve played a major role in the development of his career. This new project, “Solin Anj,” is a great example of Olivier’s excellent artistry. Each of the 7 tracks give a full picture of who the artist is musically. Before reading our brief conversation, make sure you listen to Olivier Laurent today below.
Me: While making “Solin Anj”, what was the creative process like? How'd you get inspired?
Olivier: The process consisted of me letting life tell this story. Every song was created whenever I felt a strong emotion. Whether it was happiness, sadness, anger, fear, or disgust. It took over 3 years, but I’m happy I let life be.
Did you draw inspiration from any specific genres or artists for this release?
I’ve been truly inspired by an artist from New Jersey named Mach-Hommy, who also happens to be Haitian. I love the way he rolls his albums out and also how he goes about positioning himself within the culture. Once you find a way, you can contribute and add to the culture. Everything falls into place.
Additionally, how would you describe your overall current style of music? Has it evolved?
My current style of music is mostly about current events in my life. The more I’ve grown and endured, the more my music continues to evolve.
What themes or messages do you hope listeners take away from this specific project?
A big theme I hope listeners take from this release is not to let a fear of commitment or imposter syndrome derail you. Anything positive that comes your way, you deserve it. Cherish it and lean into it.
That’s wonderful! From there, what was the most challenging part of the recording process?
The most challenging part of creating this release was creating it in a way that when my daughter is older, she can truly respect it.
Where does your stage name originate from? Has it ever changed in the past?
My stage name is my real name. When I first started making music, I went by the name Q-Liv. I felt like to truly give my all to the culture, I had to go with my real name.
Do you have any upcoming releases or plans that you're comfortable sharing with the readers?
I plan on dropping more consistently. I like to let books kind of narrate the direction I go musically. It allows for a story to unfold and provides context to my audience.
Nice! And finally, in your own words, why should a new listener check out this song today?
A listener should check out this album today because it is extremely relatable. For anyone who is a parent or plans on becoming a parent, this story shows you it’s ok to be fearful, it’s ok to be angry, but continue to fight for what’s important, which is your family.
