Zióna Maré-Laveaux Explains Her Upcoming Album “ZIONYX — THE ERA” & Creating A New Genre

Intro:

After dropping the fresh new single, “FLOW,” we have the talented Zióna Maré-Laveaux joining us for today’s interview article. She’s gearing up for the release of her exciting new album titled “ZIONYX — THE ERA” that will showcase the new genre “ZIONYX" created by Ashirah Bat-Yisrael Olukoya for this NEW ERA, A NEW FREQUENCY. This genre blends elements from the rhythmic soul of Afrobeat, the depth of AfroSoul, and her own personal cultural roots of the Louisiana Creole/Bayou sound. Her roots & heritage have helped shape her distinct voice, cultural authenticity, and cinematic approach to making uniquely long-lasting records. Before reading our brief conversation, make sure you check out this new single below.

Me: What was the creative process like while making this new record? How'd you get inspired?

Zióna: The creative process for ZIONYX — THE ERA was Deeply Spiritual and Cultural. This wasn’t just about making songs—it was about birthing a new sound and identity.

I pulled inspiration from multiple layers of my Creole Roots— AfroSoul Emotion, R&B Soul Afrobeat, Frequency Energy, and Louisiana Creole/Bayou Soul. Growing up connected to Southern culture while also feeling the pulse of the Global Diaspora gave me a unique perspective.

How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard it before? Has it changed or evolved through time?

I would describe my music as something you don’t just listen to—you experience it.

It’s a blend of AfroSoul, alternative R&B, and Louisiana Bayou influence, but at the same time, it’s something completely new. The best way to describe it is through the genre I created, ZIONYX™—a sound rooted in emotion, culture, and frequency. It’s soft but powerful, intimate but global. It feels like a conversation, like energy moving through you.

What makes it different is that it’s designed to be felt, not just heard.

As far as evolution, honestly, my sound hasn’t had the chance to evolve in the traditional sense yet—because I’m introducing something brand new to the industry. This is the foundation stage. This is the origin of the sound.

Excellent! Now, what does the title mean to you, and why did you choose it?

“The title THE ERA represents a new beginning for me—a shift into a new era, a new frequency, and a historic transition in the world. It marks the start of something that has never existed before.”

It’s deeply connected to my vision, my spirituality, and my identity as a Daughter of Zion. Everything about this project started as a vision before it became sound. I saw it, I felt it, and then I created it.

This isn’t just an album title—it’s a declaration. It marks the moment where everything changes, not just for me as an artist, but for the sound I’m introducing into the world with ZIONYX™.

THE ERA is about stepping into purpose, into alignment, and into something bigger than music. It’s the beginning of a new frequency, a new movement, and a new way for people to experience sound.

What was the most difficult aspect of making this new record for you?

The most challenging part was creating something that didn’t exist before—defining a new sound, a new identity, and building it from vision to reality without a blueprint.

Awesome! Additionally, what does your life look like outside of music? Any hobbies or things fans may not expect?

Outside of music, I spend a lot of time in reflection, creativity, and building my vision. I enjoy design, storytelling, and creating new concepts—things most people don’t expect, but they all connect back to my artistry.

Was there a specific moment in time when you realized music was your calling? Or more of a natural progression?

Music wasn’t a single moment for me—it’s a natural part of who I am. But it’s only one piece of my calling. My bigger purpose is being a tech inventor, and music is one of the ways I express that vision, creativity, and innovation.

Furthermore, are there any upcoming releases or plans you're comfortable sharing with readers?

Yes—I’m preparing to release the full project, ZIONYX | THE ERA. It’s a Complete Introduction to the New Genre and the vision behind it, and this is just the beginning.

And finally, in your own words, why should a new listener check out this release today?

Because this isn’t just another release—it’s the introduction of a new sound. ZIONYX | THE ERA offers something fresh, intentional, and deeply felt. It’s music that connects on a different level, and it’s the beginning of something new.
