Flo Frequency Discusses New Album “Elevation” & Talks Making Music With A Higher Purpose

Intro:

After dropping the fresh new album, “Elevation,” we have Flo Frequency joining us for today’s interview article. This new project features 18 tracks fueled by philosophical insight & purposeful intent. With over 30 years of experience in the world of music, Flo has mastered a unique brand of soulful R&B that functions as a deliberate "return to the center." Flo paints the vision of “Elevation” very clearly by stating in his own words, “Music isn’t just something you hear—it’s a frequency you inhabit. Before reading our brief conversation, make sure you check out this new project below.

Me: How'd you get inspired while making this new record? What’s your process like?

Flo: The inspiration came from those moments where the world gets too loud. I wanted to create a bridge from that noise into something higher. I’d find a soulful bassline that felt like a heartbeat, then layer in those velvet R&B melodies to act as the light guiding the way.

Every track on this record started with a good intention. I’d ask myself, 'Does this soulfully move me forward? Does this help someone return to themselves?' If it didn’t vibrate with love and feeling, it didn’t make the cut. It was a journey of stripping away the ego and just letting the 'Flo' happen. I wanted to make sure that when you tune in, you aren't just hearing a record—you're inhabiting a space where you can love without apology and feel at one."

How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard it before? Has it evolved?

I describe my music as the shortest distance between two hearts. If you’ve never stepped into my world, think of it as a soulful sanctuary—a blend of velvet R&B, deep resonant bass, and cinematic soundscapes designed to make you feel as much as you hear. It’s high-fidelity soul for the high-vibration spirit. I create music that acts as a bridge; it takes you from the 'now' to the 'next,' helping you inhabit a frequency where love and elevation are the only languages spoken.

What does the title mean to you, and how did you choose it?

For me, Elevation isn’t just a word; it’s a direction. It’s the movement of the soul when it finally decides to stop looking down at the noise and starts looking up at the light.

I chose this title because I wanted to name the destination. We all spend so much time navigating the 'low frequencies' of life—the doubt, the heavy heart, the world pulling us in a thousand directions. I wanted to create a sonic map that leads us out of that. Elevation is about that precise moment when the bass hits your chest, and the melody lifts your spirit, and suddenly, you feel lighter than you did a moment ago.

What was the most difficult aspect of making this new record for you?

In R&B and soul, there’s always a temptation to overproduce—to add one more vocal layer, one more synth, or one more beat to make it 'perfect.' But for Elevation, the challenge was learning when to step back and let the frequency speak for itself. I had to learn that silence is just as much a part of the 'Flo' as the music is. Another challenge was having to strip back cuts from the album, which are in my vault, but they will feature on future releases!

Awesome! Additionally, what does your life look like outside of music? Any hobbies or things fans may not expect?

Outside of the studio and music, my life is dedicated to that same mission of alignment and being centered. I spend a lot of my time in the quiet, practicing the very 'return to the center'. Whether I'm working with energy, with my family who I consider my world, studying ancient frequencies, helping people move forward from the challenges of life, studying human psychology or just holding space for others to find their own peace, my 'hobby' is essentially the art of Elevation.

Was there a specific moment in time when you realized music was your calling? Or more of a natural progression?

You know, people often see the music and the message as two separate things, but for me, Flo Frequency is actually the pivotal moment where my life’s work as a spiritualist and my passion for Soul and R&B finally merge into one.

Furthermore, are there any upcoming releases or plans you're comfortable sharing with readers?

The next album is going to be fire! We’re talking basslines that hug you and melodies that feel like a sunrise after a long night. The next album will have more rhythm, and more unapologetic love. We’re moving forward, leaning into the ‘next,’ but staying so beautifully rooted in the ‘now.’ Keep your spirits high and your ears open—the next wave of the ‘Flo’ is going to be pure magic.

And finally, in your own words, why should a new listener check out this new release today?

As each song is based on real life experiences and vulnerability. It's a passion for me to be able to put what I do and say in real life and merge it with my passion for soul music. You should check out Elevation today because it’s more than just a collection of songs—it’s a sanctuary. It’s the shortest distance between my heart and yours. In a time where everything feels loud and disconnected, I’ve poured every ounce of my faith, my healing journey, and my love for deep, velvet R&B into these frequencies to remind you that you aren’t alone.
